During his transition at a funeral ceremony held in Accra for the late Major Maxwell Mahama, some Facebook users took to their handles to express their condolences to the bereaved family.
Both people who knew the late Major personally and on social media poured out their grief, frustration, pain and anger on the social media platforms.
During the burial ceremony of the Major, many viewers took to social media and expressed their condolences to the late 32-year old’s grieving family.
Most of the comments were coming from sympathizers.
The funeral and burial ceremony was held in Accra and was attended by current and past state officials, the clergy, military personnel, family members, friends and sympathizers.
It would be recalled that immediately news of the death of the soldier was reported, many pictures and videos went viral on social media. Most of the content that were being shared had excerpts of the lynching that took the life of the soldier.
The state, together with the mass media and the telecommunication companies in Ghana teamed up in an attempt to curb the spreading of the video that had already been shared many times.
Many Facebook users also reported people who posted or shared the video and the videos were taken off.
The attempt to clear social media of the videos and photos of the lynching was to reduce the grief the soldier’s family was going through.
