- Rawlings joked that Asiedu Nketiah was not handsome at the NDC's Silver Jubilee celebration
- The NDC general secretary however shrugged off the party founder's comments
- He stated that if looks were the standard, then Mahama would have won the 2016 elections
The National Democratic Congress' General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has pooh-poohed the remarks by Former President Rawlings about his looks at the Silver Jubilee celebration of the party last Sunday.
"…it is a pity he (Asiedu Nketia) is ugly…If he were handsome, we would put him on a horse to go and help. Considering how light he is like air, the horse will run faster," Rawlings said.
However, responding to Rawlings' comments, the NDC general secretary said that the former president was only jesting to please the large crowd that had gathered to hear him speak.
He stated, that he was quite proud of his physical features, as they were a gift from God and he could not complain about them.
In a report by Adom FM, the NDC secretary noted that if looks were standard for winning elections, then Former President Mahama would have won the 2016 general elections.
"In 2016, the most handsome of the race did not win…people claimed he was more handsome than Nana Addo but still, Nana Addo won…ask yourself why people didn’t even vote massively for John Mahama though he is a handsome man, it should tell you that they didn’t vote per physical features," Asiedu Nketiah said.
The NDC secretary further explained that the comment by Rawlings, was made only because he was late to the event and at the time had arrived, every party bigwig was already seated hence the crowd cheering him on.
This, he added, caused Rawlings to jest that he (Asiedu Nketiah) was more popular with the party supporters than Mahama, if not for his looks and weight.
