Last week, news broke in Sweden that Professional Ghanaian footballer, Kwame 'Conte' Bonsu had been found guilty of assaulting his ex-wife and has been sentenced to two years in prison. The player, who plays for Swedish second division side, Gefle IF immediately had his contract with the team terminated after the verdict was passed.

Kwame 'Conte' Bonsu

It has however come to light that the sister of the midfielder, Nana Yaa Baotemaa Bonsu believes that his brother was framed by his Swedish ex-wife who was just jealous of the footballer.

The sister of the convicted young footballer said her brother was not a bad person, neither was he known for bullying. She recounted that the former Hearts of Lions player caught his ex-wife cheating on him and that led to their divorce. She said it was the repercussion of the divorce that led the ex-wife to bring such a case against her brother.

In an interview with footballmadeinghana.com, the sister of the 22-year old footballer said the case was taken to court by his brother’s ex-wife out of jealousy. She said the issue was one of false accusation and was hopeful that the truth would soon come out for all to see that her brother is innocent.

Last week, a Swedish court found Kwame 'Conte' Bonsu guilty of assault and as a result was handed a two-year prison sentence.

The hearing took place in Gavle, Sweden. Even though the court has given the footballer and his lawyers the chance to appeal the verdict, the footballer faces a 10-year ban from entering Sweden should the appeal fail

As part of the ruling, the court ordered the footballer to pay a sum of $28,000 to his ex-wife to be used to settle her legal fees and reparation for damages.

The case against the footballer was brought to the court by his ex-wife who accused the midfielder of assaulting her; an incident that took place in 2015.
