Johnson Asiedu Nketia has fired a salvo at President Nana Akufo-Addo, saying that he would not be the president if handsomeness was a big deal.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) general secretary was speaking after Rawlings described him as ugly at the party's 25th anniversary celebration on Saturday.
Rawlings had joked that if not for Nketia's ugliness, he could have led NDC into the 2020 elections.
"...it is a pity he is ugly. If he were handsome, we would put him on a horse to go and help. Considering how light he is like air, the horse will run faster,” he said, drawing laughter from the NDC supporters at the rally.
On Monday, Accra-based Okay FM called Nketia for his response to Rawlings' comment.
It was while he was giving his response that he jabbed Akufo-Addo and suggested that the president was not handsome.
Nketia added in the interview that he was proud of his looks because they were from God.
He also Rawlings' comments were made in jest and that they were not cynical in any way.
On social media, Nketia's comments drew interesting reactions:
