The minister of Inner City and Zongo Development, Boniface Abubakar Saddiq, has tasked the Zongo chiefs to ensure that the Zongo Development Fund (ZoDF) is used for its projected plan, and not for getting new wives.
He advised that the fund should be diverted into projects that would benefit society, and not for selfish interests such as payments to individuals and for social events.
He passed these comments at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale, during a forum designed to promote consultation among stakeholders.
The minister indicated that the fund formed part of the seven key priority and top projects defined in this year’s budget, with a seed capital of GHc219.5m.
He added that there would be nationwide consultation in the next few weeks.

He hoped that the data collected from the exercise would play an important role in the draft bill to be submitted to cabinet for onward presentation to parliament, where it would be considered and hopefully approved.
He promised that his ministry would coordinate with the relevant bodies to make sure that the desired results are achieved.
Some of the prime projects in the Action Plan for 2017, according to him, were the improvement of access to roads, pavement of alleys, construction of tertiary drainage systems and the management of solid and liquid waste.
He added that other important areas for the first year are infrastructural facilities designed to enhance local economic development, such as markets and a technology hub.
He concluded by appealing to all, especially the beneficiaries to play the part in order to make the project a success.
