-Residents who lynched an alleged witch in Bolgatanga have been arrested
The police carried out a swoop and gathered all the 63 suspects
-An identification parade would be carried out for witnesses to point out the culprits
On the same day that Major Maxwell Adam Mahama was lynched by some angry youth in Denkyira-Obuasi, a 67 year old widow, Yenboka Kenna was also lynched in the Upper West region. Eye witnesses said that a group of angry residents alleged that the widow was a witch and started roughing her up in the Pelungu market leading to her lynching.
After the dastardly act, three suspects were arrested and later granted bail due to the lack of eveidence. However in a new development, the police in the region carried out an operation and rounded up 63 suspects who are believed to be part of the lynching.
Some residents who could not take the issue lightly reported the act to the police which led to the arrests.
Superintendent Samuel Ponobim, the Bolgatanga Police Commander said efforts were underway to line up all the suspects for an identification exercise to be carried out to fish out all the culprits.
The residents who gave the tip-off to the police told them that the culprits lived around the place the lynching was carried out.
Superintendent Samuel Ponobim was in high spirits after the arrests and was hopeful that the police was going to get the full cooperation of the residents to bring the perpetrators of the barbaric act to book.
The lynching of the 67 year old widow has not gained so much attention like the issue involving Major Maxwell Mahama, PNC women’s Organizer, Janet Nabila has said.
In recent times, the issue of lynching and mob justice have come under the spotlight after the lynching of Major Maxwell Mahama who was alleged as being an armed robber.
