One fact about the story of the late Major Maxwell Mahama that Ghanaians would be continuously excited about is the efficiency with which the Ghana Police Service is handling the case.
The number of arrested suspects keeps growing by the day, and the latest to add to the list is one gentleman popularly referred to as “Daddy” in the Denkyira – Obuasi township in the Central Region.
He was apprehended at Diaso, a nearby town. Further details are however unclear. This leaves eleven more people on the list of people suspected by the police, as having been complicit in the murder.
The spokesperson of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Olivia Turkson said the police are still searching for more people linked to the case.
The preliminary charges are conspiracy to commit murder and murder.
President Akufo-Addo has pledged to make certain the prosecution of persons who are found guilty in the murder of Major Mahama.
The Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan, announced that some of those arrested have been transferred to the Cape Coast regional police command for further investigation and reference to the Attorney General’s department for advice and subsequent prosecution.
Major Maxwell Mahama was mistaken for an armed robber and killed in the early hours of monday May 29, 2017. His death has stimulated the renewal of calls to end mob injustice in the country.
