Madam Akosua Attaa, mother of jailed Ghanaian footballer who has been jailed for assaulting his ex-wife in Sweden has claimed that his son was framed up by the embittered ex-wife.
Mother of the 22-year old midfielder told the TV show host that she was appealing to the president and the sports ministry to go to the aid of her son.
According to Madam Akosua Attaa, Kwame Bonsu reached out to the family after news of his incarceration went viral and told them that he had been set up.
She said she nearly collapsed when she heard the news that her son was going to go to jail. She recounted that her son was a humble young man and could not possibly assault his Swedish ex-wife. She stressed on the fact that her son was innocent of the charges brought against him.
She pleaded with the authorities to help her son get justice.
Some few days after the sentencing of Kwame “Conte” Bonsu, a video was shared on social media believed to be a secret recording of Kwame and the Swedish ex-wife in question. In the video, the Swedish woman, known as Maria claimed that she married the footballer because of his money.
This was after the sister of the footballer, Nana Yaa Baotemaa Bonsu had said that the case was taken to court by his brother’s ex-wife out of jealousy. She said the issue was one of false accusation and was hopeful that the truth would soon come out to prove her brother’s innocence.
Kwame Bonsu was accused of assaulting his Swedish ex-wife in 2015 and has been sentenced to two years imprisonment. He is also expected to pay a fine of $28,000 as compensation to his ex-wife.
Lawyers of the midfielder have appealed against the court’s decision.
