- Newly appointed DCE for Savelugu-Nanton, Hajia Ayishetu Seidu, has suffered opposition by NPP executives
- Police in the Northern region are said to have fired warning shots in the wake of the protests
Developments have turned highly tensed at Savelugu-Nanton in the Northern region as police officials there clash with some party executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the appointment of the municipal chief executive, Hajia Ayishetu Seidu.
Reports from Joy FM and Citi FM revealed that the joint team of furious executives from the towns of Savelugu and Nanton rushed in at the office of the new DCE thus stopping her from resuming work.
According to Joy FM, the police in both towns have been firing warning shots with the irate protesters also charging in with stones and other weapons.
Also, checks by YEN show that workers at the DCE’s office have as a matter of urgency closed down their offices as they fear of brutalities against them by these angry NPP executives.
Meanwhile, the embattled DCE is currently under heavy security at an undisclosed location. The tensed development in the Northern region follows recent bloody opposition against the appointment of District Chief Executives (DCEs).
