- The Savelugu/Nanton district has seen a number of protests since the new MCE was elected
- The demonstrating group have threatened harm on anyone who tries to show support for the MCE
- The NPP acting secretary has alleged the leader of the group is from another party
John Boadu, the acting general secretary of the New Patriotic Party, has disclosed the leader of the protesting Savelugu/Nanton residents group is not a member of the NPP.
Since the appointment of Hajia Ayishetu Seidu as the Municipal Chief Executive for the district, a group of party supporters have demonstrated against the selected executive.
The NPP general secretary however, said the supposed leader of the angry residents was just taking advantage of the situation to drag the party's name through the mud.
According to a report by Adom FM, the NPP acting secretary, who also doubles as the party's national organizer, said the perpetrators of the violent protests in the district are not members of the NPP.
John Boadu's remarks follow the clashes between some residents of the the Savelugu district and the police at the district assembly's premises.
The clashes resulted in the police opening fire to disperse the crowd, which caused the demonstrating group to pelt stones at the police personnel.
This resulted in the injuries of several assembly executives present.
Since the appointment of Hajia Seidu as the MCE for the area, there have been a number of protests against her, with some attempts to block her entry into her office.
Until this week, Hajia Seidu was unable to officially report to her office due to threats of attacks on her person by the protesting group.
She is said to currently go to work with an armed escort since her security is at stake.
The group against her appointment claim the MCE bribed her way to victory, adding that she is an alien in the town and hence, should not be representing them.
They further stated they would not end their campaign against the MCE, pledging to continuously attempt to disrupt her work until she is removed from post.
