A mob has attacked and nearly killed a man that was accused of stealing a bike at Tamale in the Northern Region.
Sumaila Haleek, 24, was attacked with knives, cutlasses, stones and other dangerous objects.
Some of his attacker heated a piece of metal and thrust it into his neck, causing the skin there to boil.
They also poured acid on his face and beat him until he fell unconscious, according to a report by Accra-based Starr FM.
Thinking that he had died, the mob took Haleek to a landfill site and dumped him there.
A man who witnessed the entire episode took him to the Tamale West Hospital for treatment.
He is unable to walk after machetes were used to slash his leg.
Haleek is also suffering terrible pains in the back and ribs, according to the Starr FM report.
His health has improved after several surgeries, but his condition is so bad that he may spend several months in the hospital, the report said.
In an interview with the radio station, Haleek denied stealing the bike, adding that his desperate pleas for mercy were not heeded by his attackers.
