A photo that shows President Nana Akufo-Addo exchanging pleasantries with Supreme Court judge, William Atuguba, is generating interesting reactions on social media.
In the photo, Atuguba wore a broad smile as he shook hands with Akufo-Addo, but the president kept a straight face.
The picture has been portrayed by some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as some sort of payback for Atuguba for his role in the 2013 electoral petition hearing.
They said Akufo-Addo's snubbed Atuguba and that the judge deserved it.
Atuguba was one of five judges in the petition hearing who rejected Akufo-Addo assertion that the 2012 presidential election was marred by irregularities and that John Mahama was not validly elected.
He was deemed "enemy number one" by some members of the NPP during the course of the petition hearing, with Sir John, the NPP general secretary (then) verbally attacking the judge and calling him out as biased on Accra-based Oman FM.
Atuguba's photo with Akufo-Addo was taken on Monday when Sophia Akufo-Addo was sworn in as Chief Justice in parliament.
Contrary to claims that Akufo-Addo snubbed Atuguba, the president rather thanked him for standing in for the former chief justice, Madam Georgina Wood, when she retired..
He also praised the judge and some of his other colleagues on the bench for supporting the nomination of Madam Akuffo.
