The Accra Circuit Court has found the imposters of former COCOBOD Dr Stephen K. Opuni guilty on the charges of conspiracy and impersonation.
The conmen, Christian Obeng, a businessman, and Latif Apulala were accused of faking Facebook accounts in lieu of Dr. Opuni to mislead people into paying bribe to secure jobs at COCOBOD.
They both pleaded not guilty on counts of conspiracy to commit crime and of impersonation but they were adjudged guilty having been proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
The main brain behind the crime, Christian Obeng was sentenced to five years imprisonment while his aid suffered a two year jail term.
Mrs Ruby Naa Adjeley Quaison, presiding judge of the case ordered the culprit to sign a bond of good behavior or spend another year in prison by default.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Stephen Kwame Adjei, prosecutor of the case told the court that an anonymous tip had led them to the Facebook account with the username “Stephen K. Opuni” with a picture of Dr Opuni.
However, the police found out that the account didn’t belong to Mr. Opuni after they contacted him. The culprit were then apprehended after further investigations.
