- He believes it is very important to find a suitable player before the skipper hangs his boots
- He lauded Gyan's achievement of 50 goals for the national team
- Possible names as replacement have come up, but none has been confirmed yet
A former captain of Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars, Stephen Leroy Appiah, popularly referred to as “Tornado” is convinced that it is time the search for a befitting replacement for the current captain of the team, Asamoah Gyan, is found.
This, according to him, is a very necessary step that has to be taken before the skipper retires.
Asamoah Gyan has currently not scored less than fifty goals in his professional careers with the national team.
He secured the latest one against Ethiopia last Sunday.
This feat, according to the former captain isn’t an easy one.

Tornado believes that Gyan is an excellent player, but cannot go on forever.
Hence the Al Ahli player, who may soon go on retirement, would need another player to step into his shoes before he hangs his boots.
Suggestions coming in as players to step into Gyan’s shoes include FC Zurich attacker Raphael Dwamena as well as Abdul Majeed Waris
