Upon a tip-off, the alleged leader of a robbery ring was picked up from his hisdeout in Kasoa, a surburb of the Central Region of Ghana.

The suspect is believed to have been the one behind the murder of Abubarkar Sadiq Adam, footballer in Ghana. The footballer was a contestant in one of the editions of the MTN Football Challenge. The young footballer was reportedly shot and killed at his residence at Peace Town, near Kasoa.

Some of the items that were found in Yartey’s possession upon his arrest were a pump action gun, locally manufactured pistols and some machetes. It is suspected that the weapons were used by Nii Yartey and his cohorts for their robbery operations.

According to Mr. Stephen Ahiatafu, the Superintendent of Police at the Kasoa District Police Command, Yartey who they believed to be 26 years was declared wanted for robbery along with his two accomplices after being fingered in pockets of robbery cases in some parts of Kasoa.

At 4 a.m. on June 10, Mr. Stephen Ahiatafu said the police received calls reporting three masked men going on rampage from house to house taking away properties from residents. One victim reported that the robbers took away his mobile phones, LED TV sets and cash of GH¢3,000.

At 6:40 a.m. that day, the police found the body of Abubarkar Sadiq Adam in a pool of blood at his residence.

During preliminary interrogations, Nii Yartey said that he shot the footballer because they had one of their weapons seized by him which he refused to hand over upon request.
