- Akosua Puni Essien has finally paid players and staff of the Italian Club after a delay in disbursing their salaries due to “technical problem”
- Mrs. Essien, wife of Ghana star Michael Essien acquired the Italian Serie C side for a reported €237,000
Owner and bankroller of Italian third-tier side FC Como, Akosua Puni Essien, has rendered an apology to players and staff of the club, following her inability to clear out their salaries for the season under review.
The Lega Pro side has been hit by financial difficulties in the past 12 months, with the club nearly sinking into bankruptcy before being bought by Akosua.
However, it appears the takeover has still not brought stability to FC Como, with players and staff still being owed salary bonuses from the 2016/17 season.
Reports from certain quarters suggest that the club has even struggled to register new players, to the frustration of newly appointed coach Mark Iuliano, who is believed to have also complained about the club's lack of engagement in friendly games.
However, in the wake of the current dire situation, owner of the club and wife of Ghana star Michael Essien, Akosua Puni has assured players and staff of the club everything will be resolved soon while rendering an apology to them.
Her spokesperson, Gianluca Savoini is quoted as saying: "I'm sorry for this delay, of a technical nature: I guarantee that the money for the club was sent."
Akosua Puni Essien bought Como FC earlier this year after paying a reported €237,000.
The Lega Pro side qualified for the playoff round but failed to make it into Serie B after being beaten 2-1 in the first round by Piancenza.
