- The Savelugu youth had in the past weeks staged demonstrations against the MCE
- They have however conceded and agreed to work in harmony with Hajia Seidu
- They promised the government that they will not make any attempts to interfere with the governance process
The youth supporters in the Savelugu/Nantong constituency in the Northern Region, have rendered their apologies to President Akufo-Addo for their protests against the appointed Municipal Chief Executive.
The youth following a mediation meeting with a government delegation led by the Minister of State in charge of National Security, Bryan Acheampong, finally resolved their differences with the MCE, Hajia Ayishetu Seidu.
In a report by Citi FM, the spokesperson for the group, Abubakar Sadiq said the group had realized even though they believed their message was right, their approach to the issue was flawed.
He said they group wanted to assure the president that their support for him and his administration had not waned, as they all promised co-operate with the relevant stakeholders to ensure the government is successful in all its endeavors.
"As stakeholders in the Municipality, we want to state that we will harmoniously work with Hajia Ayishetu Seidu as the MCE for Savelugu/Nantong to ensure that the vision of the President and the program of government is implemented for the benefit of the people of Savelugu/Nantong," Mr. Sadiq stated.
The decision comes as a relief to the MCE and NPP leadership in the area, as in the last few weeks, the youth had mounted several demonstrations against Hajia Seidu.
The youth were upset at the selected MCE, stating that they could work with her as she was not a native of the district, hence could not represent them.
The demonstrations turned into violent clashes, as police stepped in the control the situation, which led to some assembly executives sustaining injuries.
However, it now looks like peace and calm has returned to the district.
