- Official vehicle belonging to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) involved in an accident
A Toyota Landcruiser belonging to the Inspector General of Police, David Asante Apeatu has been involved in a near fatal accident on the Kumasi highway.
Reports reaching YEN.com.gh indicates that the official vehicle which was being driven by Chief Inspector John Ankomah crashed into a KIA Rhino truck on the Nkawanda No. 2 near Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region at approximately 9:20 pm on Wednesday.
Police in the area say the truck with registration number GW1756 was carrying fertiliser en route from Accra to Tamale when the accident occurred. The driver of the truck, a 28-year-old Alhassan Kipo did not sustain any injuries but both the driver and another passenger Corporal Ntiful on board the IGP's vehicle sustained life-threatening injuries.
They’ve been since transferred to the Holy Family hospital in Nkawkaw and the badly damaged vehicle towed off the streets to prevent more accidents.
Luckily, IGP Asante Apeatu was not in the vehicle when the accident occurred as he currently in the Ashanti region for a National Police Command Conference in Kumasi. It is an annual event which is attended by senior personnel in the police ranging from commissioners, deputy commissioners, regional commanders etc.
The Eastern Regional police have initiated investigations into what may have caused the near-fatal crash.
