Residents of New Amanful, a fishing community near Takoradi were thrown into a state of shock as a six year old class one pupil, Bismarck Adzie, died from wounds sustained from an attack of a dog.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the dog entered the school’s compound and pounced on the boy. It inflicted deeps wounds before people could come to his rescue.
The pupils were said to be playing when the dog attacked Bismark Adzie and inflicted serious injuries on him. He passed away hours later at the Kwesimintsim Hospital.
When contacted, the owner of the mongrel stated that he had no choice but to go for a kennel of dogs due to the incessant robbery attacks in the neighbourhood. He however expressed surprise that one of them managed to get away, and subsequently cause such a problem.
A member of Bismark’s family, Solomon Praha said that the family were shocked at the entire incident, and are still coming to terms with how it happened.
He added that an eye witness informed the family that the dog attacked the boy, as the pupils were playing on the field. This occurred during the a meeting of school authorities and parents at a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meeting in the school.
The police have begun investigations into the matter, and the dog has been referred to the veterinary services for inspection. Meanwhile, the body of the victim has been released to the family for burial.
