- The retired footballer said the journalist's findings prompted him to carry out the DNA exams which proved that he was not the biological father of the three children Gloria bore for him
Former Ghana football star, Odartey Lamptey, has revealed that he hired a top journalist to track his ex-wife, Gloria Appiah, and document what he called her affairs with other men.
Speaking on GHone TV, Lamptey said at a point in his 21-year marriage to Gloria, he had cause to believe that she was involved with other men, so he took the extraordinary step of hiring a journalist to spy on her and document the affairs.
The retired footballer said the findings of the journalist, whose work he described as "more than Anas", prompted him to conduct a secret DNA examination on the three children Gloria bore for him.
Lamptey, 42, said the result of the DNA was explosive: It proved that he was not the biological father of all the three children.
He said his world was shattered by the result and that he contemplated ending his life.
He said before the DNA discovery, Gloria had dragged him to court, seeking a divorce and 50 percent of his property because he refused to sponsor his supposed first daughter to a UK university for a master's degree.
The former Anderlecht striker said the master's programme was to cost 26,000 pounds, which he felt he could not afford because of certain investments he had made.
According to him, he suggested to Gloria that they enrol their daughter at Ashesi University because he felt it was also a good school.
However, he said, Gloria rejected the idea and filed for divorce.
A high court recently rejected Gloria's claims to a huge chunk of Lamptey's property because, according to the court, she committed adultery during the marriage.
They court also asked her to vacate Lamptey's massive house in East Legon.
Lamptey has also got himself a new girlfriend, Ruweida Yakubu, with whom he now has two children.
He revealed in the interview that Ruweida was pregnant with their third child.
