A top member of the opposition National Democratic Congress political party has threatened to take a permanent leave from the political scene in Ghana if President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is able to fulfil one particular campaign promise.
Anthony Nukpenu, said he would quit politics if Nana Addo is able to erect a single factory during his term of office.
In the campaign buildup to the 2016 General , the New Patriotic Party and Nana Addo promised to build a factory in each district of Ghana.
The controversial promise, which became known as the "1 District, 1 Factory" was heavily critised by the NDC who believed that the NPP could not achieve the goals set therein.
It seems this idea of the NDC that the promise by the NPP is not achievable has rubbed on to Anthony Nukpenu, who stated that the current government lacked the resources to fulfil this campaign promise.
The NDC lead, who is a Greater Accra Regional Organizer of the party, said on the Accra-based Asempa FM, that he "quit politics if Nana Addo is able to build even one factory within the next four years".
From all indications, it would seem that the NPP is poised to fulfil the campaign promise.
Nana Addo wasted no time in setting up a Ministry to oversee the NPP's specials projects, which would include the "1 District, 1 Factory" initiative.
A national coordinator has also been chosen to oversee the project.
