- 20 plus legislators have complained of lacking proper office space to conduct their legislative duties
- Parliamentary Affairs Minister says committee offices may be converted to accommodate MPs with no offices
Over 23 siting Members of Parliament (MP) have yet to be provided for offices in order to conduct their daily legislative duties, according to Hon. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor.
Speaking on the floor of parliament, Hon. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Member of Parliament for the South Dayi constituency, wondered when offices would be provided for the 23 legislators affected by the shortage of office.
The problem has persisted even though the refurbishment of a 600 office capacity building - meant to provide office space for House members - was completed in May 2015 during the erstwhile Mahama led administration.

The building was originally built by Ghana's Founding Father, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, for the 1965 Organization of African Unity (OAU) conference.
In 2007 during the erstwhile Kufuor administration, government secured a $24 million loan in order to rehabilitate the prominent structure, but the project only began once the Mills led administration assumed office.

Responding to Hon. Defeamekpor's comments on the floor of the House, Minority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu stated that Parliament wa aware of the shortage and that the idea of pairing MPs in offices had been floated.
"The idea of pairing some members came up for consideration. Along the line [it] suffered some ups and downs because it was not a firm decision... For now, members may recollect that some committees were given offices and so…there may be the possibility of converting those offices to office space for those members. We may not be able to satisfy all those 23 but that will provide us with a useful beginning,” said the Majority Leader.
