- The senior national team, Black Stars have lost to the United States for the second time in three years
- The result gives USA their second 2-1 win over Ghana after they in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil
The Black Stars of Ghana were handed a second straight defeat in three days after losing 2-1 to USA in an international friendly in Harford, Connecticut on Saturday.
Goals from Dom Dwyer and Kellyn Acosta were enough to see the Yankees emerge victors, with Asamoah Gyan scoring the consolation goal for the Black Stars.
Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah opted to name a squad that consisted of some new faces but also had some of the old guards present.
Led by captain Asamoah Gyan, the Black Stars began the game on the back foot and were immediately punished after Dom Dwyer sneaked behind the Ghana defence to poke home the opener in the 19th minute.
The USA midfielder reacted quickest after a miscued shot had been fired into the Ghana box. And with both John Boye and Rashid Sumaila watching on, Dwyer tapped in from close range to put the Yankees in the lead.
The Black Stars reacted after going a goal down and created some decent chances on the right-hand flank through Frank Acheampong, however, the equaliser could still not be found.
The Anderlecht winger continued to be a menace to the USA defence and got rewarded for his efforts after being brought down in the penalty box towards the end of the first half.
Gyan - who had been off penalty-taking duties since 2012 - stepped up but unfortunately, his kick was saved by USA goalie Brad Guzan, with the result remaining 1-0 at half time.
The second half began with the Yankees still the dominant side, and Bruce Arena's side rightly doubled their lead in the 52nd minute with Kellyn Acosta directing a free kick past Richard Ofori.
Ghana, however, pulled a goal back eight minutes after, with Gyan scoring a marvellous free kick.
The goal, though, turned out to be just a consolation as USA run out 2-1 winners.
The loss represents Ghana second loss in the last three days after Mexico also defeated the Black Stars 1-0 on Thursday.
Ghana starting lineup: Richard Ofori; Rashid Sumaila, Lumor Agbenyenu, Jerry Akaminko, John Boye; Mohammed Abu, Frank Acheampong, Ebenezer Ofori, Asamoah Gyan, Raphael Dwamena, David Accam.
