African hair is known for its wide range of versatility and one artist from Côte d'Ivoire is showing just how much this is true.
Laetitia KY has embraced her natural Afro hair by sculpting it into eye-catching hand gestures for a photo series. Needless to say, the photos have gone viral on social media.
In an interview with Metro.co.uk, she said she has always adored hair and hairstyling. She added that an Instagram album of women from different rural tribes inspired her to use hair as an art form.

She said: "What I really am hoping for from this project is to incite people around me to be themselves, and not to be afraid to express themselves. We shouldn’t let the fear of negative feedback [stop] our creativity because there isn’t anything as nurturing as being oneself."
Laetitia said she has had her natural hair for five years now and that she uses extensions for her sculptures in order to widen the possibilities.
She explained that she loves the texture of her hair: "I’ve got the most frizzy on the hair classification scale! It’s a type 4C. As a result, it’s the most versatile hair you can find. This texture gives a beautiful volume to my hair too and I find it awesome!"
