Woyome oral examination - Deputy AG happy over new ruling

- Deputy AG says Businessman Woyome is running out of time to pay the judgement debt wrongly paid to him by government

- He says Mr. Woyome's recent court motion is an attempt to delay payment of government's money

Hon. Godfred Dame, Deputy Attorney-General (AG) and Minister of Justice, has reiterated the current administration's intent to retrieve a GHC51 million judgement debt wrongly paid to business man and financier, Mr. Alfred Agbesi Woyome.

According to the Deputy AG, embattled businessman and political financier, Mr. Alfred Agbesi Woyome will end up paying back the GHC51 million judgement debt paid to him by the erstwhile mills administration sooner or later. He [Hon. Godfred Dame] said that Mr. Woyome was running out of time to would have to paid back government's money soon.

Hon. Godfred Dame referred to the embattled businessman's most recent attempt to delay or cancel the AG's oral examination as a deliberate attempt to delay payment of the money.

After filing a motion at the Supreme Court, Ghana's apex court, the AG was scheduled to orally examine Mr. Woyome but was unable to due to. This was due to a counter motion filed by Mr. Woyome's legal representation to stop the procedure, a motion that the Supreme Court how now found invalid.

Speaking after the court's ruling, Hon. Godfred said the fact that one has filed a motion against a previous court order does not entitle one to a stay of prosecution. He added that the court found that the application by Mr. Woyome's legal representation was "totally baseless and without merit at all".

The dismissal was in order," said the Deputy AG, "It only shows that all these attempts by Woyome was with the view to avoiding the judgement of the court but clearly the day of reckoning will come and time will catch up with him and he will have no excuse but to pay back the money”.
