- The diplomat refused to declare his stand on whether or not John Mahama should return to active politics
- He claimed it was Mahama's decision to either contest again or forget about presidency
- Former president Mahama is yet to make a statement on his political future
Six months since the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was defeated in the 2016 elections, officials are tight-lipped about the choice of a flag bearer to lead the party into the 2020 elections.
John Dramani Mahama, former president of Ghana and the NDC’s flagbearer in the last election is still eligible to stand for another four (4) year term. He is however yet to declare his intention to do so.
Lawyer and diplomat, James Victor Gbeho, who is a prominent member of the party, has refused to declare his preference for the person to assume the next flag bearership position.
He believes that it should be a collective decision of the top hierarchy of the party, together with those who may express interest.
He added that even if the former president was chosen, Ghanaians would make the final decision at the polls.
He finally added that there was always that wish of someone who has tasted power before, to come back in order to set the records straight.
So then, it would primarily be John Mahama’s decision, if he wanted another shot at the top seat.
