President Nana Akufo Addo has turned the production valve of the Kufuor FPSO in a symbolic gesture that signifies beginning of the new floating platforms production of oil from the Sankofa-Gye Nyame oil fields.
This Thursday, July 6th, President Akufo Addo has officially commenced the FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) John Agyekum Kufour's production in a ceremony held off shore. Ghana's newest floating oil production platform that be extracting hydrocarbons from the Sankofa-Gye Nyame fields.
At the ceremony, President Akufo Addo reaffirmed his government's commitment to the exploration and subsequent exploitation of Ghana's hydrocarbon reserves, especially in the Volta Basin.

President Akufo Addo recalled a time almost two decades ago during the presidential campaign of former President John Adjekum Kufour, when the promise made that if the then NPP administration was elected, that administration would concentrate on the discovery of oil in large quantities. He said he [President Akufo Addo] believed that his administration would also strike more oil and gas.
"The focus now is also to explore opportunities on shore. That is why my government is committed to intensifying efforts towards the discovery of oil and gas on shore in the Voltaian Basin,” said the President.
