A 50 year old farmer in Techiman known as Kwame Kyere has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for defiling, impregnating and eloping with a thirteen year old girl.

The father of the girl narrated that the ordeal began two years ago when Kwame Kyere seemed accommodation and employment from him which he agreed.
The accused stated that he agreed with the girl to elope when the girl’s parents were out of town from Western Region to settle in Techiman in Brong Ahafo.
All efforts to find her proved to be a dead end but their saving grace came when a relative of theirs who stayed in Techiman spotted the girl and informed the family.
The presiding judge, Lordship Alexander Graham, sentenced Kwame on the charge that he had defiled, impregnated and eloped with the minor.
The judge used the court to appeal to the Gender Ministry to take care of the girl and her unborn baby.
The father of the girl has also appealed to the government to support him in catering for the girl.
