Government organises mass burial for 22 illegal miners trapped underground

There has been a mass burial for the 22 illegal miners who were trapped in a galamsey pit at Nsuta near Prestea in the Western Region.

The news came after the rescue team set to retrieve the trapped miners was halted due to heavy downpour of rain on Wednesday.

They promised to continue their rescue mission on 6th July, 2017 however it seems their efforts has proved futile.

The Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Benito Owusu Bio speaking to Citi FM said the total number of victims were 22 with the victims identified by name and age.

He added that the site had been shut down and the pit completely sealed away from public access.

He called on Ghanaians, particularly residents in the Prestea Huni Valley District to assist them in flushing out the illegal activity in the district.
