- A spying device which was secreted planted in the ‘galamsey’ minister’s office has been retrieved
- Mr. Amewu confirmed that the devices were found through a screening process
National security operatives have retrieved an audiovisual recording device secretly planted in the office of Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu.
The recording device was reportedly hidden in the Coast of Arms plague hanged in the office of the minister.
Mr Amewu has been a constant critic of illegal mining activities, popularly referred to as galamsey, since he became Lands and Natural Resources Minister.
And the Minister appears to have been targeted by certain unknown person, with the monitoring device found in his office further suggesting that he was being tracked.
Joy News reports that the audiovisual device found in the minister’s office included a camera, a storage unit and another device suspected to be a transmitter.
The device is said to be highly sensitive, with the ability to even pick a whisper 35 feet away.
The report further states that the hidden device was found after National Security operatives visited the Ministry to hold a screening exercise.
The Minister, though, insists he has no idea who could possibly have planted the device in his office.
Reacting to the found bag, Mr Amewu said: “I don't know what might have triggered people to do that," as quoted by Joy News.
