- South Africa’s beauty queen in trouble after feeding orphaned black kids
- The beauty had volunteered to feed the kids in a soup drive initiative
- She reportedly wore gloves as a safety measure while feeding the orphans
Social Media users are furious after photos of South Africa’s most beautiful woman wearing gloves while feeding orphaned black kids at the Orlando West Community Center emerge.
Miss Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters was reportedly on mission to feed the black little orphans through an initiative dubbed ‘soup drive’. She innocently shared photos of her volunteer activities, but people quickly noticed she had gloves on as she went about feeding the kids.
Many have criticized the beauty queen, arguing she simply didn’t want to touch the black kids, claims that the orphan’s Center and Nel-Peters herself have come out to vehemently refute.

“She didn’t wear the gloves so that she could not touch the kids. We actually advised her to put on the gloves for health and safety reasons,” says Carol Dyantyi, the Center’s spokesperson, in reaction to the critics.
Carol adds that Miss Nel-Peters was as a matter of fact protecting the children from risk of consuming contaminated food, and therefore the social media innuendos that she was being racist are misplaced and preposterous.
According to earlier reports, all volunteers at the Center wore gloves as they handled the kids. They did it for the same health and safety reasons.
While reacting to the hullabaloos, Ne-Peters apologized to those who felt offended by her wearing gloves while feeding the kids.
“We all felt that it was a good idea to put on the gloves when handling food for the youngsters. But I am sorry if some people are offended,” she said.
Her reason for doing it is clear, but social media is not yet satisfied with the explanation.
The war of words has since escalated to a whole new height with statistics showing 18,000 people and counting currently debating this matter.
