- Hassan Ayariga has described Dr. Edward Mahama’s new role as Ambassador-at-large as ‘errand boy’ work
- He states the PNC should hold a meeting with their 2016 flagbearer to demand an explanation for the development
Hassan Ayariga, the founder and 2016 flagbearer of the All People’s Congress has mocked the leader of the People’s National Convention, Dr. Edward Mahama for accepting the Ambassador-at-large role in the current government.
Commenting on the announcement at a press briefing on Tuesday, Mr. Ayariga indicated that such a role is not worthy of someone of his (Ayariga) stature, as it is mere ‘errand boy’ work.
“What I understand as Ambassador-at-Large is [that it] practically [means] an errand person, like an errand boy to the president. President sends you anytime he wants…you are not even up to an aide, an aide is even much higher,” he said.
According to a Class FM report, Mr. Ayariga stated he would never go in for a such a position, as it would not be befitting to him.
The APC leader further asked the PNC to hold a meeting with their flagbearer to demand answers for his acceptance of the new position, as the development is not a good look for their party.
President Akufo-Addo had sworn-in 21 ambassadors on Monday, including his former opponent in the 2016 election race, Dr. Edward Nasigri Mahama, as an Ambassador-at-large.
This decision has caused many to criticize the PNC leader’s motive behind his acceptance of the new position, when he had allegedly chastised former members of his party who were made such offers by past governments.
According to the General Secretary of the PNC, Mr. Atik Mohammed, the party was not made aware of this new development until it was publicly announced this week.
He opined that it would serve Dr. Mahama’s best interests to resign immediately from the party or resign from his post.
