Charles Nii Armah Mensah, better known as Ghanaian Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, was awarded the Key to the city of Worcester in the United States last weekend.
Shatta Wale received the keys from the Mayor of the City of Worcester in Massachusetts, Joseph Petty, in recognition of his contributions to the arts industry.
Following the recognition of by the city of Worcester, Shatta Wale celebrated his new award with big smiles and a happy pose with two of the City’s officers.
In a post on Facebook, Shatta Wale wrote, “American police celebrates with me for my key ...They said it’s a great treasure.”
Shatta Wale is not the only Ghanaian to have received this key, as Sonnie Badu, Abraham Attah and Okyeame Kwame are among the list of celebrities to have been honored by the city.
While the Key to Worcester does not actually open anything, it symbolizes that the owner has all the rights and privileges of a free man in the city.
