Flying planes used to be a man’s job. That was a stereotype that even the school-going kids had at the back of their minds. It explains whey schoolmates and friends ridiculed Anne Divya when she said she wanted to become a pilot.

The 30-year-old Indian lady always had a dream that one day she will fly a plane. Despite the stereotypes and the difficulties she had with school fees, she never stopped dreaming.

And who said women could not make it to the top of the male-dominated aviation industry?

Though her friends and some of her relatives were not supportive of her career choice, her parents, dad Major Murahari and mom Padmini, stood by her.

"My parents instilled confidence in me. They were always there to guide me towards achieving my goal,” she says.

Upon graduation, Divya landed a job with Air India, a national carrier. Along the way, she was sent to Spain for further training. She later returned and started flying Boeing 737.

She reportedly went for another round of training, came back, then graduated to flying the company’s flagship Boeing 777 aircraft, an extraordinary accomplishment.
