It is emerging that, former President John Dramani Mahama is likely to settle on former Ghana’s Interior Minister, Kwesi Ahwoi as his running mate into 2020 general election if he wins the ticket to the party’s flagbearership race.
The decision according to sources forms part of efforts by the former National Democratic Congress (NDC), leader to reunite the party’s, founding fathers, cadres with the current grassroots members.
According to Kasapafmonline.com report, sighted by Yen.com.gh, President Mahama is on a journey to water down the supposed anger of some influential personalities within the NDC including the Awhoi brothers and the Fante caucus.
The report explains that, sources within the party say, some founding members of the NDC and other big shots, who have given the party a firm footings over the years, are not happy with former President Mahama on how he sidelined them in his past administration.
The big names, the report says it include Mr Totobi Quakye, the Awhoi brothers, Dr Kwabena Adjei and many others across the ten regions of the country.
Some pieces of information available also affirms that, former President Mahama has embarked on an ‘apology tour’; meeting the Eastern regional caucus of the NDC, asking for their support into the 2020 election.
President Mahama is said to have also embarked on a similar tour to the Central region, where he was demanded to pick Mr Kwesi Ahwoi as his running mate into the 2020 election. A proposal ex-President Mahama is said to have accepted.
The decision by the former NDC leader to pick Mr Kwesi Ahwoi as his running mate, is said to win back the confidence of the party’s bigwigs across the country, including the Fante caucus.
Sources close to the office of the ex-President Mahama say, the former NDC leader will soon continue with his ‘apology tour’ to other parts of the country.
