- The Sports Authority has suggested that the accident involving the Asante Kotoko bus be investigated
- The director of the NSA said that the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate should consider probing the circumstances surrounding the accident
The National Sports Authority has said that there should an investigation opened into the terrible accident involving the Ashanti Kotoko football Club bus that claimed one life.
The director of the NSA, Mr. Robert Sarfo Mensah questioned the reasons behind the club’s decision to return to Kumasi that late in the night.
Speaking on Class FM’s Morning show, the NSA director stated: “I know that definitely the MTTD will conduct an investigation into this matter and bring out what the cause of the accident might be. We are hearing that a damaged vehicle was parked on the road without any warning sign; if this is true then that driver must be dealt with.”
Mr. Sarfo Mensah further wondered about the condition of the football club’s driver, as in some cases there are usually two to three drivers on board to take turns at driving when one of them gets tired.
On Wednesday night, the Asante Kotoko bus which was carrying 35 players and team officials, was involved in a ghastly accident when the team was returning to its base in Kumasi after losing 1-0 to Inter Allies in a premier league fixture.
The bus is said to have crashed into a truck that had broken down by the side of the road, which reportedly did not have any reflectors or warning signs to indicate its situation.
Meanwhile, the equipment office, Kofi Asare, has been identified as the passenger that was killed in the accident.
