They two suspects were arrested at a hideout on Thursday evening between Mallam and Kasoa after abandoning the unregistered Hyundai Elantra vehicle they absconded with from a mechanic at Ablekuma Fan Milk and tried to discreet until the entire issue had died down.
Police said the two also ambushed someone who was walking out from a bank in front of Las Palmas restaurant and in a bid to outrun the authorities they opened fire on the police who were on community patrols because they thought that they had been outed by their activities.
The culprits later tried to use the motorbike of a police officer who died during the violent insurgency to escape from the scene but after the second culprit was wounded and couldn’t start the bike they turned their attention to the vehicle and at gun point they escaped as residents watched on in dismay.
Police say only after interrogation that they will be able to determine if the two suspects are those who released fire on the policemen and causing the death of one of the policemen.
