- President of the republic has held a send off party for the former chief justice
- Georgina Wood retired from public office in June 2017
A farewell party has been held for the outgoing chief justice, Georgina Theodora Wood.
This party, held under the auspices of the president of the republic, sought to celebrate the former chief justice for her service to the peace and security of Ghana during her tenure as the chief justice of Ghana.
Presenting his congratulatory message to Georgina Wood, the president revealed that her decision to televise the 2012 election petition did not only reveal the shortcomings of Ghana's electoral system but also become a stepping stone for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to win the 2016 elections.
"My Presidency is an unintended consequence, as the lawyers say, of your decision. I have every reason to be grateful to you,” Nana Addo praised Georgina Wood.
Georgina Wood retired from public office as chief justice on the 7th of June, paving way for her successor, Sophia Akuffo to be considered as the substantive chief justice of Ghana.
Both personalities remain the only women in the political history of Ghana to be considered as head of the Supreme Court of Ghana.
