Government’s senior minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo has indicated that the NPP administration was soon going to put corrupt NDC officials on trial for acts of misappropriation and embezzlement that would be uncovered in the days ahead.
The minister made this comment while he was speaking at the 25th Annual NPP’s Ashanti Regional Delegates’ Congress which was held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi.
He indicated that the ailing economy that the NPP administration inherited from the erstwhile NDC government has necessitated investigation and possible prosecution of ex-government officials who will be implicated to have embezzled state funds.
He added that it would be an exercise iin futility if the current administration tries to settle all the debts that it inherited from the NDC government in in January 2017.
He assured the delegates that government was currently going through all the paper works that they received from the previous administration. He indicated that the investigation was being done meticulously to ensure that when prosecution starts, there would be substantial evidence so that no one can accuse the government of witch-hunting.
He added that majority of NDC officials who would be fingered to have engaged in any single act of corruption or misappropriation would be brought to book.
He urged all those gathered to exercise some patience and not to pressurize the Akufo-Addo-led administration to quickly investigate past government officials when there was not enough evidence to carry out any legal action. He added that his government did not want to lose of the cases in court so every single contract was being reviewed.
