15 suspects arrested in connection with Lapaz shooting, including 6 Nigerians

- The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested 15 people in connection to last Thursday’s shooting incident

- The shooting was part of an escape attempt by two robbers which led to the death of a police officer

About 15 people have been arrested by the Accra Regional Police command, for their suspected involvement in the shooting incident at Lapaz which led to a police officer losing his life.

According to the Regional Police Commander, the arrest of the suspects on Sunday, was through the combined efforts of officers from the Criminal Investigations Department and the Accra Regional Command.

The apprehended suspects were made up of eight Ghanaians including a female trader, Charity Otuboa, and six Nigerians.

According to a Starr FM report, the Police Commander briefing media houses on the development said: “The suspects were arrested at different locations in Accra, including Ablekuma, Olebu and Kasoa after the police had picked up intelligence and tip-offs.

The unregistered Hyundai Elantra car that was snatched by the robbers at the scene of the incident was abandoned at Olebu and is currently with the police. Other exhibits that were retrieved from the suspects include empty shells and an unregistered Royal motorbike.

The names of the suspects are: Ken Ikponmwosa, 23; Faith Ogieriakhi, 35; Fem Erhunmwunse, 20; Michael Ogbegia, 20; Sampson Aja, 27; Emmanuel Aimiu, 31, and Kwasi Nyarko, 33.

As well as, Raphael Nii Lartey Coffie, 37; Asare Frederick, 35; Mark Enchil, 31; Kwadwo Afari, 32, and Kwabena Gyasi, 20, Abudu Mohammed and Salusi Zibu, whose ages not yet known.

Meanwhile, the director general in charge of police operations, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has called on all police officers to not renege on shooting down robbers who pull out guns on them.

"We will descend heavily on armed robbers. We have sensitized our men to deal with armed robbers. We have charged our men to deal with any armed robber who tries their patience …..We are prepared for fire for fire,” he warned.
