I’ve spent GH¢5million in fighting galamsey - Manso MP calls for applause

The New Patriotic Party (NPP), Member of Parliament for Manso-Nkwanta, Albert Joseph Quarm has revealed that, he has so far voted a whooping sum of GH¢5million in support of the fight against illegal mining (galamsey).

According to him, both locals and illegal Chinese nationals have not been able to carry out galamsey activities in his constituency because he was proactive on the ground.

Speaking in a media interview today, the anti-galamsey crusader insisted that he is incorruptible, therefore no foreigner can induce him with his money.

The MP has also threatened to expose influential Ghanaian politicians who wanted him to soften his stance so they can invade various forests in his constituency.

“I can remember at least spending GHc5million from my own pocket in fighting galamsey in my constituency alone not to talk of those in other areas. You cannot influence me with money. Some have tried bribing me, and I’m going to expose them if they try it the second time”, the lawmaker warned.

Joseph Quarm, who is also a mining expert disclosed that, he is not against mining activities but will never support and shield illegal miners, whether they are foreign nationals or from his own constituency.

The Manso Nkwanta legislator also maintained that, he is working hard as an anti-mining crusader, to intensify his galamsey fight across other parts of the region which have been hit hard by galamsey activities.

“It’s not only my community and constituency alone I have to protect, I feel like doing it across the entire region and in the whole country”, the honorable member said.
