- The firebrand NPP MP is to be grilled by the party's disciplinary committee
- According to the NPP's acting national chairman, the party has taken note of all the comments of the Assin Central MP
Acting Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Freddie Blay says the party will "take steps" to meet Kennedy Agyapong following his criticism of President Akufo-Addo.
According to him, the party hierarchy will meet up with the Assin Central MP for talks, having been unimpressed with the way the maverick lawmaker has handled issues so far.
Kennedy Agyapong was a very influential figure during the campaign period, as the NPP upstaged the John Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) to win the 2016 elections.
Recently Mr Agyapong appeared to be leading a revolt in the Central Region after suggesting that government had neglected natives of the region in terms of appointments.
The hierarchy of the NPP, though, have now taken notice of the MP's outbursts and are planning on holding talks with him.
According to the acting Chairman of the NPP, Freddie Blay, utterances from Hon. Agyapong has sometimes been disturbing, but he was quick to add that the MP had the right to criticise.
In an interview with Starr News, Mr. Blay said: "Regarding Hon. Agyepong, the party is taking steps to meet him, in some cases…his criticisms may be legitimate, the way he has gone about it I may disagree with him…but definitely there must be space for him to criticise.”
It remains to be seen which action will be taken by the party against Kennedy Agyapong.
