- President Akufo-Addo he will trial 'corrupt' NDC officials once he finds evidence
- He say he will embark on political 'witch hunt' in fighting corruption
President Nana Akufo-Addo has disclosed that, his administration is in need of compelling evidence to prosecute former National Democratic Congress (NDC), officials who have corruption allegations hanging around their neck.
According to him, he will not embark on political ‘witch hunt’, but will trial every single corrupt former government appointee once he has strong evidence.
He also said, it is not enough for him to drag someone before competent court of jurisdiction on the mere grounds of corruption allegations.
Speaking at his media encounter today, president Akufo-Addo stressed that, the fight against corruption is against crime and not with political opponent. Therefore he will not waste time in throwing former corrupt government officials to jail, once his administration gets a strong, well-documented and researched evidence.
“I wouldn’t accept that the process of bringing people before the court in acts of corruption is done for political purposes. They are done because you have evidence, the people who breached the law and thereby caused damage to the public interest; strong evidence of wrong doing which a court of law can reliably use to convict,” he said.
Nana Akufo-Addo also explained that, his attention has been drown to all kinds of corruption allegations, therefore his government has lined up number of issues which is currently under thorough investigation.
“There is a lot of work being done which will see the light of day where those allegations are thoroughly being investigated and when the time comes we’ll fully prosecute them…It is my expectation that there will be forensic cases. It will not be an attempt to witch hunt members of the last government,” he said.
