- They have called on Kennedy Agyapong to intervene to save their businesses
It was a sight of high emotions and teas when hundreds of angry Mokola traders mobbed Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong at Kokomlemle in Accra.
The Member of Parliament, was at the studies of the Multimedia Group for his usual political show, when the traders in their hundreds storm the premises of an Accra-based Adom TV.
According to them, the ambush the MP to appeal to intervene in preventing the Accra Metropolitan Assembly from ejecting them from where they ply their trades in front of the newly constructed Mokola Shopping Mall.
The traders mainly women, have been given a two-week ultimatum by the AMA to vacate their current premises, claiming they obstruct businesses at the mall.
The leader of the angry market women, Nana Akua told the NPP man, all efforts to speak with the AMA boss have proved futile.
“We are all NPP members and we have been sacked because someone has bought our Makola land. We don’t know where to go now. We have children, we pay fees, we pay taxes every three months, this isn’t fair”, the angry traders chanted.
The outspoken MP who was became emotional, appealed for calm and called on the AMA boss to do the ejection exercise with a human face.
“We have to be fair and concerned, these women are talking against President Akufo-Addo but he is not even aware. I think AMA should have human feelings. If they collect taxes from them, then it means they should provide them with other alternatives. Sacking them entirely not good”. he stressed.
Kennedy Agyapong assured the traders of his support to resolve the matter amicably. “They should remember 2020 is close. This same people have husbands, children they will all vote against us”, he cautioned.
