The opposition National democratic Congress (NDC), is warning President Nana Akufo-Addo to defuse his ‘wicked’ attempt of ousting the chairperson of the Electoral commissioner, Madam Charlotte Osei.
According to the NDC, the will fight the sitting president with every necessary weapons available to them, if he doesn’t stop ‘witch-hunting’ the independent EC boss.
Speaking at a press conference today, the Minority Leader of Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu, cautioned that, president Akufo-Addo’s blackmailing attempt of Madam Osei in order to impose another person on the EC, will be met will fierce resistance from the opposition members.
“Stay off and stop intruding into the operations and activities of the EC, the NDC has tolerated the NPP hounding out Civil Servants from office since assumption of power”, Mr Iddrisu warned.
The NDC’s has jumped to the defense of the Madam Osei after the Electoral Commissioner on Wednesday challenged lawyers representing the so-called concerned staff of the EC who are demanding her immediate impeachment.
Lawyers of the electoral commissioner, on yesterday dared an Accra-based law firm of one Maxwell Opoku Agyeman, to provide full details of the petitioners or face her in court.
Lawyer Opoku Agyamang’s firm has earlier served notice that, a petition has been presented to the president to trigger an impeachment process the EC boss.
The petitioners among other things accused Madam Charlotte Osei of “single-handedly renegotiating contracts with a vendor without the involvement of other members of the Commission.
Madam Osei is said to have also awarded a contract to the tune of $21,999,592 without going through tender process and approval, contrary to the Public Procurement Act.
The petition EC boss has been accused of receiving a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 vehicle gift from former President John Dramani Mahama.
