- Government has been warned against moves to impeach the EC chairperson
- The opposition NDC says it will ensure that the job of Charlotte Osei is not terminated
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has sent a strong signal of government's intention of removing the electoral commissioner, Charlotte Osei, anytime soon.
The embattled EC boss is currently being asked by some unknown workers of the EC to either vacate her post or risk being impeached following allegations of corruption and the abuse of power leveled against her.
Government has so far received a formal petition from the said workers, who in a 29 page document outline various allegations including that of Charlotte Osei single-handedly awarding huge contracts without the approval of her board.
Addressing a group of media folks in reaction to the 6 months stay of government, minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu argued that the opposition party will stick to ensuring that the independence of the electoral commission is strictly respected.
According to Haruna Iddrisu, "the President’s blackmail witch hunt will fail today, fail tomorrow and will be resisted by the NDC”.
