The success of the fourth edition of the African Musik Magazine Awards & Music Festival (AFRIMMA) appears to be in doubt, following revelations of errors in the selection of nominees for the awards.
Details reaching YEN indicate that mistakes we made with regard to certain categories, and this has cast doubts over the awards scheme.
Popular Ghanaian policeman and musician, DSP Kofi Sarpong is reportedly listed in the category for “Best Female East Africa”. In the same category is Willy Paul, a male Kenyan gospel musician.
The two have interestingly also been nominated in the Best Gospel category.
It doesn’t end there. Ghanaian disc jockey, DJ Breezy has been listed as a Nigerian.
For an international platform, these issues pose a challenge to the credibility of the entire exercise, and may cause irreparable damage to the integrity of the awards, unless urgent steps are taken to remedy the situation.
Artistes lined to aim for the biggest award of the night, ‘African artiste of the year’ are Mr. Eazi, Davido, Wizkid, Diamond Platnumz, Flavour, Eddy Kenzo, Tekno, C4 Pedro and Fally Ipupa.
