Two-time US Olympian Jamie Nieto, who is paralyzed following a backflip accident, has defied doctors' prediction that he may never be able to walk again by walking at his wedding.
The high jumper injured his spinal cord while doing a backflip in April 2016. However, this did not stop him from marrying his childhood sweetheart Shevon Stoddart on Saturday, July 22 in San Diego, California.
Nieto proposed to Stoddart, who is a Jamaican-born hurdler, while in a wheelchair just six months after the accident. On their wedding day, the adorable couple walked more than 130 steps hand-in-hand in an amazing display of determination and love.

In an interview, the 40-year-old Nieto said although people say his recovery is fast, it feels slow for him.
He said: "I feel like it's not fast enough. I want to be better tomorrow. I'm built for speed, not for going slow. But I'm working on being the best walker I can be."
The athlete competed in the 2004 and 2012 Olympics and the backflip was his signature move after competing. His wife Stoddart said she pushes him as hard as she can through physiotherapy sessions. Both are hopeful of Nieto's full recovery soon.
