- Madam Charlotte Osei has sued lawyer Maxwell Opoku Agyemang
- She says he must reveal the identities of the faceless EC workers in the petition
Mrs. Charlotte Osei, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission has initiated law suit against the lawyer of the aggrieved EC workers, Maxwell Opoku Agyemang.
The legal practitioner, who signed the petition to Akufo-Addo by the faceless EC workers, is seeking the president to impeach the electoral commissioner with immediate effect.
Madam Charlotte Osei is said to have single-handedly petitioned Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), over some alleged misappropriation of Staff Endowment Fund for some fictitious reasons.
This, the aggrieved workers in a statement say have brought the name and integrity of the commission into disrepute, hence calling for her removal.
The workers have also accused Charlotte Osei, in the petition to the President, of compromising her neutrality as EC boss, by accepting a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser V8 vehicle with registration number, WR2291-15 from the then office of the then NDC-Mahama administration without going through procurement process.
But Madam Charlotte Osei, in her response to some of the allegations leveled against her threatened to sue the lawyer for the petitioners for defamation, if he fails to disclose the identities of his clients.
Lawyer Opoku Agyemang has however refused, to name his clients in the petition, indicating his readiness to face the EC boss in court.
Meanwhile, Mrs Osei in some of her responses has accused her two deputies of hiding behind the petition, seeking for her removal.
She has also accused her first deputy, Madam Georgina Opoku-Amankwa of signing some fictitious contracts in the name of the Electoral Commission to the tune of GHc40million without going through procurement process.
Another deputy Commissioner in charge of operations, Mr Amadu Sulley also stands accused of extorting some monies illegally from political parties to the tune of GHc6million without the recourse to the law.
Charlotte Osei has also fingered Amadu sulley for transferring votes illegally in a run-up to the 2016 elections, contrary to the country’s laws.
