- Hassan Ayariga says Madam Charlotte Osei is unfit for the EC job
- He says she should be pushed aside to help the EC gain back its integrity
The founder and leader of the All People’s Congress, (APC), Hassan Ayariga has labeled the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Madam Charlotte Osei as ‘stupid’ and unfit to stir affairs of the EC.
According to him, he has no personal problems with women picking up top positions but his assessment on her, is purely based on performance before and after the 2016 elections.
“I still stand by my earlier claim that Madam Charlotte Osei is ‘stupid’, and I would even add that she is ignorant to manage the EC office”, he fired up.
Ahead of the December 2016 election, Mr Ayariga descended on the EC boss, describing her in an ‘unprintable’ words, after he was disqualified from the presidential race over some irregularities in his nomination forms, and later apologized.
But Hassan Ayariga appears to have gone back to his words and even in a more harsher manner this time. His recent attacks on the personality of Mrs. Charlotte Osei, comes on the back of corruption allegations labeled against her in a petition submitted to President Akufo-Addo by some aggrieved workers of the EC.
However, Madam Osei in her response accused her two deputies of hiding behind the petitioners, seeking for the President to oust her out of office. The EC boss in a statement cited Mr Amadu Sulley of collecting some illegal monies from political parties to the tune of GHc6million without the knowledge of the Finance Department of the EC.
She also accused another deputy commissioner, Mrs Georgina Opoku Agyemang of signing some GHc40million scandalous contracts in the name of the EC, without going through procurement process.
An allegations that have been discredited by her two deputies, insisting they are calculated attempts to soil their integrity.
The APC leader in another separate interview said the EC chair is running the office with emotions, and acting as though she holds personal grudges against certain people at the Electoral Commission.
He also added that, accusations and counter accusations the commissioners have leveled against each other is an indication of the fact that there is mistrust and disunity in the entire EC set up.
The situation, he argued, is degenerating into something he said is tarnishing the credibility of the Electoral Commission.
“I have said it and will continue to repeat it at any given opportunity that Madam Charlotte Osei is not fit to run that office, she has brought more scandals to the EC more than any of her predecessor. She is with speed, destroying the legacies of those who went ahead of her”, Hassan Ayariga lamented.
